Our Hebrew School Principal, Fran Oosterom, or Mrs. O as she is affectionately called, is a vital and active participant in the Bellmore Jewish Center family.

Mrs. O was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she was raised in a warm, traditional Jewish household. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University, graduating with top honors; then continued there receiving a Masters Degree in Reading and a Masters Degree in Special Education. She has been a New York City Public School teacher for over 26 years and is currently using her expertise as a Staff Developer/Mentor for new teachers in the New York City Department of Education.

Prior to taking the Principal’s position at the Bellmore Jewish Center, she served for 12 years as a Principal at other Synagogues as well as teaching and serving as a leader and advisor for USY and Kadima.

Mrs. O became Principal of the BJC Hebrew School in 2000 where she enjoys a wonderful rapport with all. She has created a nurturing educational environment that enables students to reach their potential. Her enthusiasm and commitment to Judaism is transmitted on a daily basis through the love and affection she shows the children.

Mrs. O is happily married to Steve, and she attributes much of her success to the support, love and encouragement from her husband and family.
